Michael Schumacher is still recovering from the head injuries he suffered during a skiing trip in the Alps back in 2013, and this week, the Schumacher family has received some bad news when Michael's favorite uncle, Karl-Heinz, died following a bout with cancer.

Margaret Schumacher, the wife of Karl-Heinz, announced on Facebook that his husband lost his battle against colorectal cancer. A friend of the Schumacher family told German newspaper BUNTE that Michael is very "distraught" after his uncle's death.

"It is terrible. The suffering in the family simply does not end. Since Michael's accident, everyone is very sad anyway. And now Karl-Heinz dies. Luckily, his mother did not have to experience it anymore," the family friend said in an interview with the The Daily Star.

Karl-Heinz was the favorite uncle of Michael Schumacher because he took care of his mother Elisabeth after his parents' divorce. The older Schumacher was battling colorectal cancer for several years and prevailed due to different treatments. However, the disease returned late last year and spread throughout his body.

The death of Karl-Heinz Schumacher comes just days after Mercedes-Benz drops the Michael Schumacher name on their Formula 1 cars. The "KeepFightingMichael" hashtag was removed this year as fans were outraged by the move of the luxury car company, according to AutoWeek.

However, a spokesperson from the team noted that they have not severed their ties with Michael Schumacher. They removed the "Keep Fighting" initiative from their cars in order to create more opportunities for other companies to use it.

Mercedes-Benz also announced that they are still working with Michael Schumacher and his family regarding future projects. Both parties are just waiting for the right time to reveal their next project together.

Michael Schumacher is still under the care of a private group of nurses and there are no clear reports regarding his health status. The family has been really quiet about his situation but everyone is still hoping that he can make a full recovery.
