Speculation is building the New York Knicks plan to pursue John Calipari as a coaching candidate and franchise savior over the summer.

With the Knicks mired in a six game home losing streak and 3-8 start to the season, CBSSports.com is reporting head coach Mke Woodson could soon find himself replaced on an intriem basis by longtime company man and current assistant Herb Williams, who would be thought to merely be holding the seat warm for the Kentucky coach.

Dimming the team's immediate future all the more and thus paving the way for Calipari is the fact the Knicks don't have a top selection in the upcoming 2014 NBA draft, billed by many as one of the best in decades, and are salary-capped maxed out with few tradeable assets.

"Where's the excitement?" one rival executive told CBS Sports. "They have no pick, and the excitement isn't coming from winning."

The website reports another factor in the Knicks soon electing to change directions is the fact star player Carmelo Anthony and Calipari are both represented by the highly influential CAA agency. One league executive predicts that the bidding for Calipari could top $8 million a year.

"We've got to get out of it," Anthony told CBS of the malaise the Knicks now find themselves trapped in. "We've got to dig deep within ourselves and figure out how to dig ourselves out of this hole. We dug ourselves in the hole, now we've got to dig ourselves out."
