The Los Angeles Lakers season appears to be over this early. With a 20-47 win-loss record and only 15 remaining games on their schedule, it will be hard to catch up on the other teams in the tight Western Conference division. Many pundits are saying that they should already focus on rebuilding for next season and they can start it by unloading Timofey Mozgov lucrative contract.

The Los Angeles Lakers already had a disappointing performance last season in the wake of Kobe Bryant's retirement. To make up for it, the team made a total rebuild this season by getting Luke Walton as head coach and Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov in free agency. The change seems to be effective as they stormed to a 10-10 record from the start of the season till the end of November.

Since then, the Los Angeles Lakers only manage to win 10 out of 47 games that consequently relegated them to the last place. And now, it looks like they will suffer the same fate the past four season as they will fail to reach the playoffs for four consecutive years with losing record. Worst of it, they have Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng's massive contract to deal with.

As per Spotrac, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Timofey Mozgov to a four-year, $64 million contract while Luol Deng has a four-year, $72 million. Both players are not productive as Mozgov only manage to put up 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while Deng is only good for 7.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. Recent reports are now saying that the Lakers could unload one of those lucrative problems.

According to Lake Show Life, the Los Angeles Lakers could possibly make a trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets that will beneficial for both of them. Trade scenario is saying that the Lakers will send Timofey Mozgov plus a late first-round pick to the Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez. From the looks of it, the deal makes sense and probably favorable for both of them.

From the Los Angeles Lakers point of view, they will be able to dump Mozgov's huge contract by acquiring a one-time NBA All-Star and one of only four players in the league today averaging at least 20 points and 1.8 blocks per game this season. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets will be to save roughly $6 million by getting Mozgov plus the late first-round pick could be a steal for them.

Will the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets agree on the trade between Timofey Mozgov and Brook Lopez?
