The Nintendo Switch was released a week ago and people are already questioning its relevance as its lack of quality games will hurt its future. A weak roster of launch games with the exception of Zelda is a cause of concern for Nintendo's newest console. And a promise of a release of multiple indie games coming may not be enough to ensure its future.

According to Nintendo, 60 indie games will be released this year for the Nintendo Switch. The games will come in as a mixture of original titles and ports from other platforms as reported by Wired. This marks a new approach for Nintendo as they embrace the work of small developers and give them a new portable platform to work with other than the limited capabilities of a smartphone.

Then again games aren't enough to ensure success in the gaming world which again may be the case for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has had consoles that had stellar games coming from the Nintendo 64 and the Gamecube but both had middling sales compared to Sony's PlayStation.

As early as now, the Nintendo Switch is getting lower attach rates when compared to the Wii U during its launch according to Dual Shockers. Attach rate is the number of games sold for each console. When the Wii U launched, it had an attach rate of 1.22 games per unit. Meanwhile, the Switch only had 1.07 in its launch despite similar sales to the Wii U.

The lack of third party titles at launch may be the cause of the decrease to which Nintendo has claimed to have addressed this generation. While it is true that it will get third party games in the coming months, it will definitely be an inferior version when compared to other consoles because of the Switch's hardware limitations. Gamers will likely purchase third party games from other consoles as they will likely be the better version.

It is important for Nintendo to step up their first party development in order to compete with other consoles. Portable games like Pokemon and Monster Hunter need to be on the Nintendo Switch to make it a success. It also has to fix its online features as it has been a problem since the Wii U as well as add multimedia features like internet browsing and streaming.

The Nintendo Switch has a long way to go to reverse Nintendo's future. The company needs to fix a lot of issues to ensure its success but at least it has a great hardware with a unique concept to back them up.
