The new Porsche 911 GT3 was unveiled at the Geneva motor show and promises an even more powerful sports car than the previous model. It's poised to be the one of the best Porsche 911's released in years with the return of a manual gearbox that car enthusiasts have sought for.

The Porsche 911 GT3 will offer two modes of transmission, the faster PDK paddle shift transmission and the old-fashioned six-speed manual transmission. As reported by Jalopnik The manual transmission was added due to insistent demand from old school drivers and will surely drive up sales. The last Porsche models that offer a manual transmission were very much desired by car enthusiasts with the 911 R sold out.

Under the hood of the Porsche 911 GT3 boasts a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. With that power, the 911 GT3 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 197 mph for the PDK transmission. The manual transmission boasts a slightly slower time at 0 to 60 mph at 3.8 seconds but with a top speed of 198 mph. While the PDK steering might offer a slight advantage int terms of performance, a handful of enthusiasts would still prefer the feel of a manual transmission.

The engine for the Porsche 911 GT3 was based off the current generation 911 race cars including the 911 GT3 # and the 911 RSR. Meanwhile, the 2018 911 GT2 will also offer rear-axel steering which will help drivers to turn the corner faster according to Autoweek.

The use of lightweight materials for the Porsche 911 GT3 gives the supercar a respectable power to weight ratio of 6.4 lbs per horsepower. Depending on the mode of transmission, the 911 GT3 will also have a difference in weight. The 911 GT3 with the PDK will come in at 3,153 lbs. while the manual transmission will come in at a lighter 3,116 lbs.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 will be available this fall starting at $144,650. When compared to 911 R that offers a similar performance, the 911 GT3 is a steal.
