Nate Diaz and the UFC has always had a tumultuous relationship with Diaz criticizing the promotion for not promoting him enough. In his most recent story, Diaz once again claims that the UFC has no interest in promoting someone like him.
Nate Diaz tells USA Today that the UFC tried to force him out of Ice Cube's movie "Fist Fight." According to the UFC fighter, the UFC urged Diaz's friend who got him the movie role, to instead use Georges St. Pierre or Connor McGregor for the movie role.
Furthermore, the UFC fighter claims that the UFC favors fighters who are white with blue eyes. Although Nate Diaz admits that he doesn't speak fluently and does not have the right appearance for the UFC, that doesn't mean that the promotion should not him. The Stockton fighter contests that the UFC is in the fight business and should, therefore, promote the best and the baddest like Nick Diaz.
Then again, Nate Diaz isn't surprised with the UFC's action. He knows that GSP and McGregor are more marketable. But Nate Diaz's marketing strengths don't depend on looks and ability to speak. The UFC fighter has gotten to where he is now just by his brash attitude alone and has been successful so far.
Nate Diaz's no-nonsense attitude, especially in his post fight interviews, have gotten him into marquee matchups. His interview after the Michael Johnson fight wherein he called out Conor McGregor led to two blockbuster fights against the Irishman. Diaz's two fights against McGregor are two of the UFC's top PPV events which made Nate Diaz a superstar.
Nate Diaz should be fine without the UFC's push as he has proven to be capable of doing it himself. But the allegations paint a dark picture for the UFC that favors only their top stars. The UFC has faced criticism regarding the Reebok deal where a majority of fighters lost thousands of dollars of sponsorship money but benefits the more popular fighters as reported by Deadspin. Nate Diaz's allegations only add fuel to the UFC's shady management.
