The 2016-2017 NBA season is halfway done already and the New York Knicks are once again on the same predicament as a year ago. To no one's surprise, the New York Knicks are once again on track to miss the playoffs. It's like a yearly tradition for this once proud franchise. Trading Derrick Rose, their starting point guard, for the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio is seen as a desperate move to make a final push for the playoffs. But, this is the New York Knicks, a franchise known for the last several years for its dysfunctional owner and management. So, like any other things involving the New York Knicks, the deal fell thru.

The Derrick Rose for Ricky Rubio trade should've been a done deal except the Minnesota Timberwolves suddenly declined at the last minute and the reason for that is as always, the New York Knicks, according to a report from the Bleacher Report. Aside from the straight up Derrick Rose for Ricky Rubio trade, the New York Knicks wanted an additional piece. The Minnesota Timberwolves balked at the proposed trade offer.

A one on one trade between Derrick Rose and Ricky Rubio seems to be a fair deal for both the New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The trade would also work since the two players have similar salaries. The New York Knicks asking for an additional piece is bit too much for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Even though Derrick Rose, 28, is a former MVP back in 2011, several knee injuries have somewhat slowed down the former Rookie of the Year. This season, Derrick Rose is averaging 17.6 points, 4.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game.

In 60 games so far this season, Derrick Rose has shown flashes of his MVP form. But on most nights, Derrick Rose has been a shell of his former self and has been disappointment.

With the proposed Derrick Rose for Ricky Rubio deal already dead, the New York Knicks looks like will just play out this season with Derrick Rose still their starting point guard. Waiving Derrick Rose is an also an option as there are talks lately that the New York Knicks might waive Derrick Rose, via a report from CBS New York. Whatever the New York Knicks decides to do with Derrick Rose, one thing is for certain, they won't be making the playoffs this season.
