The Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks, two playoff teams last season, are off to a poor start and could make a deal soon involving their young stars Kenneth Faried and Iman Shumpert in order to arrest their skids.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Knicks and Nuggets are exploring the possibility of swapping the young talents although a deal is still far off as the Nuggets are seeking more for their explosive power forward.

The Knicks are desperate for more frontcourt help as their starting center Tyson Chandler is out for at least four weeks after injuring his leg recently. Meanwhile, power forwards Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin have been in and out of the injured list aside from being in their 30s. Shumpert is a former first round pick of the Knicks and used to be in the starting line up until he was bumped off by J.R. Smith. When Chandler returns from injury he is likely to see his minutes dwindle further.

Faried is just 23 years old. Known as one of the league's hardest working players, he makes up for his lack of size with his work rate. The Nuggets feel they can get more by trading Faried and sources say the team is asking for a player plus a first-round pick. The New York Daily News suggests that a third team may have to be included in the deal to satisfy the demands of both the Knicks and Nuggets.

Interestingly, the Nuggets and Knicks have a long history of trading players. In fact, Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony was once the face of the Nuggets until he was traded to the Big Apple almost two years ago. In previous years, the Knicks also sent center Marcus Camby for Antonio McDyess.
