According to AppleInsider, QR Codes are often used as a form of marketing for advertisements and promotional use for websites. And though they are already available QR and barcode scanning app, this special function from Google is more simple to use and no more additional step from the user side.

Not only for iPhone users, iPad will also benefit from this feature as it redesigned the tab switcher. The switcher allows iPad user to see the currently open sites as well as the recently viewed tabs on other devices connected to the user's Google account.
