Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET, the Colorado Avalanche (14-2-0, 28 points) and the Carolina Hurricanes (6-7-4, 16 points) square off live from the PNC Arena in North Carolina in the second of two meetings against each other this season. The game can be live streamed here. Colorado fans can hear all of the hard-hitting action on KRWZ 950 while Carolina fans can do the same on 99.9 The Fan.
Colorado is looking to win its third straight game as it sits atop the Central Division heading into the game while the injury riddled Hurricanes look to continue to navigate their way through the season with many different pieces sidelined. In their previous meeting this season, Colorado topped Carolina 4-2 at home on Oct. 25.
Colorado is coming off of a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals Sunday night where Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves against his former team and backstopped the Avs to their second straight victory.
"It was great, especially against my old team," said Varlamov, according to NHL.com. "It's always tough to play against Washington. They have so many good players, the best power play in the League, but I think we did a great job, and that's why we got a positive result."
Varlamov is 9-2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.
Carolina received some good news on the injury and goaltending front as Cam Ward returned to practice Sunday for the first time since being sidelined with a lower-body injury on Oct. 24, but he's still a little bit away from playing in a game despite being ahead of schedule.
"He needs to be healthy and 100 percent," coach Kirk Muller said via NHL.com. "He needs practices, and he needs to be looking sharp and confident."
Justin Peters has filled in mostly for Ward during his absence, and is 2-5-1 with a 2.51 GAA and a .951 save percentage.
If Peters gets the nod tonight, he'll have to stop a potent Colorado offense that is led by Matt Duchene, who has a team-high 19 points off of 11 goals and eight assists, along with Paul Stastny and Gabriel Landeskog, who each have six tallies and seven helpers for 13 points.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, have been led by captain Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner, who each pace the team with three goals and six assists for nine points, though Skinner is on the injured reserve. Alexander Semin is right behind them with three goals and five assists for eight points.
The Avalanche looks to notch yet another win while the Hurricanes will hope to continue to stay afloat without several injured players when these teams hit the ice tonight in Carolina.
