The New York Knicks have targeted Minnesota's Kevin Love as their leading recruit for the 2015 free agent class.
According to Yahoo! Sports as part of their effort to retain him this summer when he becomes a free agent, the team has promised Carmelo Anthony that they will clear the cap-space needed to pursue Love.
Yahoo! reports that Love will almost assuredly exercise his early termination option in two years when he is also expected to attract interest from the likes of Chicago and Los Angeles.
As for the high-scoring Anthony, the website reports the team's approach to keeping him in the fold revolves around offering him three things they are convinced no other franchise can: a five-year, nearly $130 million extension; the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, and an expedited retooling plan.
The contracts of Amar'e Stoudemire (23.4 million), Tyson Chandler (14.3 million) and Andrea Bargnani ($12 million) are all scheduled to expire at the end of the 2014 season.
Through the Wolves first seven games, Love ranks second in the league in scoring (26.4) and leads the league in rebounding (15.0). The former UCLA star also ranks among the top 20 players in minutes played.
