In a Premier League game in London, Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason has a fractured skull and had surgery during Sunday's game against league leaders Chelsea.

25-year old midfielder Mason, clashed heads with Chelsea defender and captain Gary Cahill 13 minutes into the game, the incident took place as result of a Chelsea set-piece and the defender attacking the ball. After almost 9 minutes of treatment on the pitch, Mason wore an oxygen mask as he was carried off on a stretcher and was immediately taken to the St. Mary's Hospital in London.

Hull City, in a statement revealed, that Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in the hospital for the next few days. Everyone at the club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the accident and the emergency department and neurosurgery unit at St Mary's Hospital.

Hull further said that they would update the world with Ryan's updates. Mason got a ball split second before Cahill in a set-piece, the Chelsea captain was already committed to the header and as a result the pair collided quite awkwardly.

Cahill, who fortunately was alright and played the rest of the game said he was committed to the ball and couldn't himself back from that header, he wished Ryan all the best for a speedy recovery.

Mason joined Hull from Tottenham last August with a club-record fee that was undisclosed. He has scored one goal in 16 Premier League appearances for the Tigers. Prior to his move, he made 53 top-flight appearances for Tottenham, and had loan spells at Yeovil, Doncaster, Millwall, Lorient and Swindon.

Hull lost Sunday's game 2-0 as goals from Diego Costa and Cahill gave Chelsea a victory. This win took them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
