Peyton Manning is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday on his "sore" right leg.
Manning was injured during Sunday's 28-20 win over San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium when Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget him him low with less than two minutes remaining. Manning, who completed a seven-yard throw to Demaryius Thomas on the play, stayed on the ground writhing in pain following the play.
"I'm pretty sore," an already limping Manning told ESPN in the locker room. "They got me twice in that lower area. I felt better coming into the game after the bye week, but I'm pretty sore."
With the Kansas Chiefs, the league's only remaining unbeaten team next on the horizon, the Broncos figure to not only need Manning healthy but at his best. The Chiefs also lead the league in sacks.
"I hope not," Manning told ESPN when asked if he feared the injury might linger for the rest of the season. "I'd like to be able to shake it."
Manning told ESPN he conferred with trainers as soon as he entered the locker room and the plan is for him to have an MRI sometime early Monday morning. The Broncos aren't scheduled to have their first on-field practice of the week until Wednesday.
Manning completed 25 of 36 passes against the Chargers for 330 yards and four touchdowns, marking the eighth time he has surpassed 300-yards passing in a game this season and his fifth game with at least four touchdowns.
