Good news for 'Game of Thrones' fans. First, showrunners reduced the episodes in season 7 but now they are quite unsure about the number of episodes in the final season, season 8 and they might increase the number of episodes.

As written in Metro, according to HBO's programming president, "Game of Thrones' final season might not have only six episodes." There are only seven episodes in the seventh season of HBO's adventure fantasy drama series.

Showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss previously told that the show would end after 73 episodes which directly indicated that season eight would consist of six episodes.

HBO's programming president Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that they are still mulling over how many episodes will be there in the final season. Bloys said, "HBO bosses are still figuring out the shape of the season, what they want to do."

He added that "I'll take as many as they want to do. If they give me eight, I'll want 10. But it's really up to them. They'll let me know." HBO and writers are also talking about the possible prequel series.

Casey Bloys said that it is such a big property but it is a pretty high bar. One would be foolish not to explore it. He told that they will take some shots at it. But they will not rush it if it doesn't feel special.

"I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out," he added. It is not compulsory to have a prequel but if writers come up with a good story then they are ready to take a shot at it.

HBO's 'Game of Thrones' season 7 first episode is delayed as first it was about to air in April but now it will be aired on June 25, 2017. The shooting of season 7 will complete till February. Currently, they are shooting in Iceland.

'Game of Thrones' broke HBO's rating record once again with its sixth season. On an average, more than 23 million viewers watched each of the season 6 episodes.

Meanwhile, everyone is expecting an official statement on a number of episodes of 'Game of Thrones' season 8. Fans are expecting a higher number of episodes so that they get to watch their favorite series more.
