Miami Dolphins Coach Joe Philbin Liked Richie Incognito's Locker Room Demeanor But Traded Vontae Davis for Bathroom Overuse, Report

The Miami Dolphins wanted Richie Incognito for his locker room behavior. They did not want Vontae Davis because of his bathroom behavior.

In the latest of endless columns hammering the Miami Dolphins for their support of Incognito, the now infamous offensive guard accused of harassing teammate Jonathan Martin, the Miami Herald reported the uneven process in which Dolphins coach Joe Philbin determined which players he wanted on the team.

According to the Herald, Philbin has been a fan of Incognito from early on in Philbin's two-year tenure as Dolphins coach, which could have contributed to the team's ability to keep a police report alleging sexual harassment filed by a female volunteer against Incognito at a team golf outing out of the public eye.

"So why did we not hear anything about it until now? Well, Incognito and the Dolphins did a bang-up job of making the issue go away. The victim was paid off. And the team swept the issue under the proverbial rug," the Miami Herald column read.

Then, the Herald made the comparison of Philbin's preference for Incognito as opposed to a couple of other players, including Davis.

"Coach Joe Philbin, who was in his third month as Dolphins coach at the time, didn't cut Incognito. Oh, the coach was seen that season as standing up for the right kind of players, as Miami cut Chad Johnson after his domestic violence issue and traded Vontae Davis because, in part, he went to the bathroom too much during practice.

But Incognito, who did this misdeed, remained part of the team and locker room. He was one of the men Philbin talked about when he often said the Dolphins have the right kind of character in the locker room."

The Herald didn't elaborate on the Davis situation, but that is clearly curious reasoning - especially considering Davis' production as a professional.

According to GridironGrit.com, the 25-year-old Davis has played in 62 games with54 start. He has made 224 career tackles with two sacks, one forced fumble and 13 interceptions for 150 yards and a score since being selected in the first round (No. 25 overall) out of Illinois in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.  The 5-11, 204-pound corner has racked up 76 tackles with 1.0 sack and four picks through 18 games (all starts) since being traded to Indianapolis.
