The WWE officially ushered in the Sasha Banks era of women's wrestling on the July 25 episode of "Monday Night RAW."
"The Boss" defeated Charlotte on that edition of the flagship show -- the first post-WWE Draft episode -- to capture the richest prize in her division. The victory solidified Banks' hard work, but also put an end to an over 300-day reign for Charlotte.
Charlotte, the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, defeated Nikki Bella to end her then-record 301-day reign as Divas Champion at Night of Champions in September. She then held the belt through WrestleMania 32 this past April, where she defeated Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat Match for the newly-minted Women's Championship.
When Banks defeated Charlotte on "RAW," it ended her 307-day combined reign as Divas and Women's Champion. Flair recently reacted to his daughter losing to Banks.
The "Nature Boy" said his daughter didn't lose anything and put over Banks as a solid person to drop the belt to.
"She didn't lose anything," Flair told Fansided. "She proved to everyone in the world that she is the greatest athlete in the WWE and the greatest women's champion of all time. There's no disgrace losing to Sasha. She had it for 307 days which is such a long time in a sport that is so very competitive. I'm so proud of her and she has such a positive attitude. She's looking forward to the rematch and so am I."
Banks and Charlotte are set to have a highly-anticipated rematch for the Women's Championship at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
"The Boss" has had a busy month as not only is she the face of the women's division, but she married her long-time boyfriend Mikaze over the weekend.
Banks is a trailblazer in the WWE and put women's wrestling on the map with Bayley in NXT. Though her main roster journey has been filled with ups and downs, she'll return to Barclays Center where she and Bayley put on one of the best matches of 2015 at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn last August.
Many fans were frustrated with the WWE's treatment of Banks on the main roster, but she finally won the big one on that special edition of "RAW."
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, who is the current GM of "RAW," wrote a lengthy Facebook post about his emotions watching Banks achieve her dreams.
"There were no balloons, confetti, displays of brilliant pyrotechnics or in-ring celebrations to commemorate this title victory," Foley wrote on Facebook. "But looking around this room, at the smiles, the hugs, the tears, I realize that I have never seen so many people so genuinely happy at another person's success. And I know that I will never forget this night - when the little girl who never stopped dreaming, who refused to take no for an answer, who made the words "be so good they can't ignore you" her mantra in life, became the NEW WWE Women's Champion."
Banks and Charlotte will get a chance to try and replicate that magic at SummerSlam in less than two weeks.
