Mike Woodson insists he's not worried about the New York Knicks slow start or how it might affect his job security.
Given the combination of owner James Dolan clamoring about how he's convinced the team has enough talent to compete for an NBA title and the Knicks disappointing 1-3 start, speculation is building Woodson might soon find himself on the hotseat as the Knicks seek to stay afloat in the ultra-competitive Eastern Conference.
ESPN detailed a meeting Dolan recently held with coaches and top front office execs where he alerted all of them of what he expects this season and how he expects the Knicks to be right there to challenge the two-time defending champion Heat.
"He told them he believes they have enough talent to win it all," one source told ESPN. "And he expects it to happen this year. A few people were a bit surprised, taken aback. But he's the owner. He has a right to expect it."
The Knicks won 54 games last season and finished second in the Eastern Conference. For the first time in 13 seasons, the team also won a playoff series. The team added seven-foot sharpshooter Andrea Bargnani during the offseason and re-signed reigning Sixth Man Award winner J.R. Smith.
But Smith has yet to play this season, serving out a five game suspension for a drug related suspension and the team recently lost center Tyson Chandler for up to six-weeks with a broken fibula.
"In terms of an edict, we try to win every year," said GM Steve Mills. "And our goal is to try to win a championship and try to be as competitive as we can possibly be."
