Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph left his team's 99-84 loss to New Orleans after just eight minutes Wednesday night to be on hand for the birth of his son.

According to ProBasketballTalk.com, after being alerted courtside, Randolph arrived at the hospital in time to witness the birth of his seven pounds, four unces son. He had left the arena by the start of the second quarter.

Grizzlies officials announced over the team PA system in the third quarter that the All-Star forward had made it to the hospital just in time.

While none of his teammates were questioning Randolph's priorities, they clearly could have used him. Behind Anthony Davis (18 points, nine rebounds), Eric Gordon (19 points, four rebounds) and Tyreke Evans (16 points, seven rebounds, four assists), the Pelicans built an early 19-point bulge and never looked back.

A 12-year veteran, Randolph's best season came with Portland in 2006-07, when he averaged 23.6 points per game and 10.1 rebounds. Known as "Z-Bo," the two-time All-Star has averaged better than 20 points six times in his career.

The Grizzlies, who host Golden State on Saturday, gave no timetable for Randolph's expected return.
