The stars will shine at Petco Park on Tuesday as the MLB presents the 87th annual All-Star Game live from San Diego.

The American League All-Stars will take on the stars of the National League in the annual Midsummer Classic. The fans voted on the starters and the stakes remain high as the winning club will nab home-field advantage in the World Series.

AL manager Ned Yost, the skipper of the 2015 World Series champion Royals, has tabbed Chris Sale to toe the rubber at the start of the game. Sale has an MLB-best 14 wins this season and ranks third in the AL with 123 strikeouts. Sale's battery mate will be Salvador Perez from the Royals.

Terry Collins, manager of the reigning National League champion Mets and the NL All-Stars, has turned to Johnny Cueto after seeing many of his projected starters end up unavailable. Cueto is more than deserving of the nod after finishing the first half with an NL-best 13 wins, while ranking third in the Senior Circut in ERA (2.47) and fanning 115 batters.

Cueto will throw to his teammate, Giants catcher Buster Posey, to start the game.

The AL's infield consists of Eric Hosmer at first base, Jose Altuve at second, Xander Bogaerts at shortstop and Manny Machado at third. In the outfield, Jackie Bradley Jr., reigning All-Star Game MVP Mike Trout and Mookie Betts will start the game.

The Cubs own the infield for the NL starters. Anthony Rizzo will start at first, Ben Zobrist will man second base, Addison Russell will hold court at shortstop and Kris Bryant will serve at third. In the outfield, Carlos Gonzalez, Marcell Ozuna and Bryce Harper will start the game.

At designated hitter, David Ortiz will serve for the AL in his final All-Star Game appearance, while hometown hero Wil Myers will bat for the NL.

The AL has won the last three All-Star Games, but the NL holds the all-time lead with a 43-41 edge, despite the Junior Circuit winning every Midsummer Classic from 1997-2009 -- with the one exception being a controversial tie in 2002.
