Randy Orton may have some big plans for the biggest WWE event of the summer.

"The Viper" has missed all of 2016 thus far with a shoulder injury that has taken longer to heal than expected. Orton, however, is on the comeback trail and should make a return to the squared circle sometime soon.

With the WWE set to announce a SummerSlam opponent for Brock Lesnar on Tuesday at its "SmackDown" tapings for the episode set to air on Thursday, Orton remains one prominent rumored potential adversary.

Orton is scheduled to return to the Performance Center in Orlando next week as he seeks to get medically cleared for a comeback to the ring. There are rumors that once he gets clearance, Orton will be penciled in to face "The Beast" at SummerSlam on Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, according to PWInsider.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion remains one of the most interesting possibilities for a feud with Lesnar because his striking offense is suitable to go up against the former UFC star.

Orton's sudden moves such as the punt, the RKO and the through-the-ropes DDT could give him a believable chance of defeating Lesnar if they crossed paths. Lesnar will make waves when he partakes in UFC 200 this Saturday in Las Vegas as he battles Mark Hunt, and the WWE is looking to catapult the UFC exposure into a huge feud for SummerSlam.

While it remains to be seen what the WWE has planned, an Orton vs. Lesnar matchup could be a compelling draw for "The Biggest Event of the Summer."
