Here's hoping he means it.

After partying in Cabo this week, Johnny Manziel has vowed to stay sober starting Friday in the hopes of returning to the NFL. The former Browns quarterback has been a party animal over the last few months, going from state to state and even out of the country to binge.

It seemed all was lost for the former Heisman Trophy winner as he continued his downward spiral, but the slippery slope may actually lead to an upswing for the wayward former NFL signal caller. Manziel told TMZ earlier this week that he vows to remain sober as he eyes a return to the NFL.

Many people have tried to help the fallen star. Even NBA legend Charles Barkley reached out to Manziel back in May when rumors of his rampant drug use sprouted up.

"I said, 'Johnny, man you're screwing up your life, man. I'm not your dad, I'm not gonna try to lecture you," Barkley told 97.5 The Fanatic, according to TMZ. I'm just telling you I had a brother who passed away at a young age. Drugs and alcohol got him. It's gonna end like a bad movie.'"

Barkley said that Manziel told him he just likes to have fun, to which Barkley responded he was out of control.

"I said, 'Man, don't screw up your career, and I'm worried about your life," he said. "My mom, when my brother passed away, I thought she quit living after that happened. I felt bad for her, and I don't wanna feel bad for your mom and dad if something happens to you man, stop being selfish.'"

Manziel's father, Paul, recently referred to him as a "druggie" and said he hoped he'd end up in jail, something which was mocked by the former signal caller on Instagram.

While it seemed harsh, the elder Manziel is clearly fed up with seeing his son throw away his promising career and make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Barkley shared that mere hours after his chat with Manziel, the former quarterback was involved in a fight at a Las Vegas nightclub.

"My friends, they were riding me," Barkley said. "'Yeah, you're a good mentor, the guy gets arrested three hours after talking to you.'"

Manziel actually wasn't arrested for the altercation, but he was kicked out of the club. It's been hard for anyone to get through to him -- including himself. Manziel checked into rehab last year and then vowed to get better in a statement in April, but thus far he hasn't been able to wrestle his way out of it.

Manziel, 23, has had a lot of trouble staying away from the party scene and was also recently indicted by a Dallas jury for an alleged physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, model Colleen Crowley.

The former quarterback was also recently sued for allegedly causing $32,000 worth of damage to a home he and his party friends rented for a two-day alcohol and drug-fueled binge in Los Angeles. On top of his incidents, Manziel has been involved in at least two vehicular accidents as well this offseason.

Manziel has once again made a vow to stay sober and hopefully for the sake of his career and well-being, he'll stick to it.
