Roman Reigns' suspension sent shockwaves throughout the WWE and it turns out his Twitter apology wasn't the one he doled out.
The WWE announced last week that the three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion -- the same man they've pushed to the moon for nearly two years -- was suspended 30 days for failing a wellness test.
Reigns offered a mea culpa on Twitter afterward, saying he takes full blame and owns the suspension.
As it turns out, Reigns was also ordered to apologize to the entire locker room.
WWE officials demanded Reigns apologize to the entire WWE roster before being flown home and the whole ordeal was met with mixed emotions, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestlingheadlines.com). The report also claims it was a Triple H decision and not Vince McMahon.
It likely was done due to how high-profile a talent Reigns is, but reportedly there were some people on the inside who felt it wasn't necessary to humiliate the leader of the Roman Empire, but that belief wasn't universally shared.
It has also been reported that the 30-day ban will cost Reigns $100,000, but he won't miss a pay-per-view pay-off since he'll be back in time for the Battleground main event against Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
On a related note, John Cena recently said he'd love to mix it up in the ring with Reigns in an interview that took place in China prior to the suspension.
"I know that I always kind of test myself, whether it's new superstars or established superstars, and I know Roman Reigns has carved up quite a niche for himself and he has all the attributes to be a successful WWE superstar for some time to come," Cena told The Inquirer. "I've heard he's good. I'd like to find out how good he is."
Analysis: It's hard to take a stance on what the WWE reportedly did to Reigns. On one hand, he's human so embarrassing him in a way they haven't with anyone else seems harsh. On the other, he's been given every booking favor possible, so to fail a wellness test is so confounding that he definitely did owe an apology to his peers, the creative team that worked so hard to build him up and the executives that pushed him.
As far as a feud with Cena, these comments were likely made before the test failure, otherwise the WWE probably wouldn't want Cena hyping up the "Big Dog." Since the WWE has designs to keep Reigns in the main event picture upon his return, it wouldn't be surprising if he eventually faces the "Cenation" leader down the line once this all subsides.
