The Penguins are the 2016 Stanley Cup champions, but fans of the Kings believe the L.A. team won their third Cup in franchise history.
Pittsburgh defeated San Jose, 3-1, in Game 6 on Sunday to win its fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history and first title since 2009.
The Sharks ousted the Kings in five games in Round 1 of the playoffs. The last game the Los Angeles-based franchise played was Game 5 of the opening round, where San Jose eliminated them on April 22.
The "hockey fans" of Los Angeles didn't seem to notice this.
The Kings won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2012 by defeating the Devils in six games and again in 2014 by ousting the Rangers in five. They did not hoist the greatest trophy in sports in 2016.
And yet in Jimmy Kimmel's segment "Lie Witness News," the show took to the streets of Los Angeles to gauge the reaction from the die-hard Kings fans about the club's fictional Stanley Cup win from the night before.
The reactions were hilarious, including one guy who described his family as huge hockey fans and said their reaction to listening to the game on the radio (what?!) was "pandemonium."
Everyone was fooled into thinking their beloved hockey club won the Cup rather than the Penguins despite the team being inactive for nearly the last two months.
Only one sharp-minded youngster knew that the interviewer was full of it, making him the smartest person in the entire clip. See for yourself below.
