The "Biggest Party of the Summer" could be even greater if Bill Goldberg got involved.
The former WWE and WCW World Heavyweight Champion hasn't appeared in a WWE ring since 2004, but he could be getting closer to an in-ring return since he will appear in the WWE 2K17 video game.
Goldberg recently revealed he's open to a return and the perfect place for a comeback could be SummerSlam on Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The WWE has done a lot to make its annual August spectacle the WrestleMania of the summer and adding a marquee name like Goldberg could do wonders for the event.
Here are three potential opponents for Goldberg at SummerSlam.
1) Brock Lesnar
"The Beast" was Goldberg's final opponent in the WWE in an infamous match at WrestleMania XX. Fully aware both combatants were leaving, the WWE Universe turned on the match. Given all the hype that Lesnar will receive for his UFC 200 fight with Mark Hunt in July, the WWE could use this momentum to put him in a high-profile match at SummerSlam. Since their first bout left a lot to be desired, the two behemoths deserve a chance to redeem themselves.
2) Roman Reigns
It likely wouldn't be the popular choice, but the WWE can't seem to get enough of the "Leader of the Roman Empire," hence his lengthy run as WWE World Heavyweight Champion despite not being over. Still, this match has a built-in storyline since both men have utilized the spear as one of their signature moves. It also gives the WWE the potential chance to turn Reigns heel and hopefully explore a different side of his personality by having him try to end Goldberg's career.
3) John Cena
Over the last few years, the "Cenation" leader has displayed his versatility by putting on some amazing matches with several types of Superstars -- including during his United States Championship open challenges. Since Goldberg was at one time the face of WCW and Cena has been the face of WWE for over a decade, it would be a dream match of sorts. Plus, it would keep Cena out of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship scene, which is always a plus.
