The NFL's official Twitter account was hacked on Tuesday with the attacker firing off a since-deleted tweet claiming commissioner Roger Goodell was dead.

It was later confirmed that the NFL commissioner is fine and the account was victimized by a hacker.

"We regret to inform our fans that our commissioner, Roger Goodell, has passed away," The NFL's twitter handle wrote, according to Deadspin. "He was 57. #RIP.'

NFL PR man Brian McCarthy then took to Twitter to inform the NFL's followers of the hack and confirm Goodell being alive:

The party involved in it was relentless and once again got into the NFL's account.

"Oi, I said Roger Goodell died," the NFL's account tweeted. "Don't delete that tweet." It later added: "OK, OK, you amateur detectives win. Good job."

The NFL eventually gained control back of the account and deleted all the tweets from the person responsible for the cyber attack.

Scott Carroll of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette then reported that after the attack, the NFL was only following one Twitter handle, believed to be that of the attacker:

Chelsea Gates then reported the hacker was found and suspended from Twitter:

Goodell is a very controverisal figure, but obviously the hacker went to far. He has served as commissioner since 2006 and has been involved in many issues over the years, most recently the Deflategate scandal involving Tom Brady and the Patriots.
