Miguel Cotto has become one of the hottest names in boxing following an impressive third round TKO victory against Delvin Rodriguez in October, with names like Sergio Martinez and Canelo Alvarez coming up frequently in "next fight" conversations.
One name that has been overlooked, however, is Timothy Bradley when it comes to Cotto. Bradley has established himself in the elite class following a victory over Juan Manuel Marquez a few short weeks ago, but still struggles to attract fans with his name alone.
He proved he can entertain when pitted against an action fighter when he battled Ruslan Provodnikov; perhaps Bradley vs. Cotto would provide the necessary contrasting styles for a great bout?
Bradley and his team didn't rule the possibility out, however their stipulations seem to be a major roadblock. Cotto was once a welterweight, but has now fought mostly at 154 lbs. "I told him, the only way we would fight Miguel Cotto would be 150. Not 152, 150," said Bradley's trainer Joel Diaz said.
"We will do the same thing Mayweather did. We know for Cotto to beat Bradley, he's going to have to attack him like he attacked Mayweather. That's his only strategy to fight. If he boxes Bradley, he won't find him. He's slow. He's like a Marquez, he's strong, but he's not fast. The only way he'll beat him is go in there and take it to him right from the beginning, and try to rough him up."
With serious talks underway for Cotto to actually move up to middleweight to challenge Sergio Martinez for his belt, it's extremely unlikely that Cotto would shed weight and any advantages to take on Bradley in a less lucrative bout.
Canelo Alvarez, who recently fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in one of the highest-grossing fights in boxing history also lurks as a major payday for Cotto if he's willing to take his talents to Showtime.
