The World Champion Boston Red Sox feted their fans in a Saturday parade where series MVP David Ortiz serenaded them with a rendition of Drake's "Started At The Bottom."
An estimated 1.5 million fans were on hand for a parade that started at Fenway Park and extended all the way to the Duck Boats floating on Charles River. The red Sox 4-2 series win over St. Louis brought the franchise its eighth world championship.
The highlight of the emotional gathering came at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street. As the procession paused to honor the victims of the marathon bombing, teammates Jonny Gomes and Jared Saltalamacchia jumped off their boat and placed the World Series trophy and both of the "Boston 617 Strong" jerseys that hung in the team's dugout all season on the finish line.
Weeping fans then broke out with a version of "God Bless America," as both Gomes and Saltalamacchia hugged victims and first responders who stood along the finish line saluting the team many say stand as a testament to the city's true grit.
As red, white and blue confetti littered the air, Ortiz later stood on a flatbed truck and channelled Drake in performing one of the year's most popular anthems.
