Tonight at 8:00 p.m. the ACC's finest in football will be on display when the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes (7-0) and No. 3 Florida State Seminoles (7-0) meet in Tallahassee for a tilt that will have major BCS Championship implications. In FSU's last major ACC showdown with the Clemson Tigers, when both squads were ranked in the nation's top five, Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston threw for 444 yards and three touchdowns in a 51-14 drubbing on Clemson's field.
Both sides are playing it cool in the leadup to this major clash, and avoiding inflammatory rhetoric. "We're going to prepare the same," Winson said. FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said "Just need to keep marching on. Another great opportunity."
While FSU has playmakers all over the field, Miami coach Al Golden said the top priority is containing Winston. "He's beyond his years," Golden said. "He's talented. He's mature with the football. Strong arm, can move his feet, can create from a bad situation and I just think he's excellent. Regardless of his age or year in school, he's excellent. He's playing really well and they're executing at a high level."
For the Seminoles, their target needs to be Hurricanes running back Duke Johnson, who is gashing opponents for 6.7 yards a carry this year. He has rushed for 823 yards and six touchdowns already. When comparing playmakers, though, Winston has the clear edge as a two-way threat.
"He can make all the throws. He can make all the throws and you can really see he's a competitor," said Miami linebacker Jimmy Gaines. "He's really a competitor, so I mean, it's going to be a great challenge for us as a defense just to go against him and play against him. I'm excited for it."
