The NFL season hasn't even started yet, but some Dallas fans are already angry at the Cowboys new running back -- and it has nothing to do with football.

Ezekiel Elliott tuned into Game 7of the NHL playoffs between the Blues, from his hometown of St. Louis, and the Stars, from his new home in Dallas, on Wednesday night.

The Blues absolutely throttled the Stars in Dallas to the tune of a 6-1 victory and will now be moving on to the Western Conference Final.

The former Ohio State running back enjoyed watching his hometown hockey team move to within one series of the Stanley Cup and fired off what was meant to be an innocent, supportive tweet of the feat:

It didn't sit well with his new fan base.

The Cowboys selected Elliott with the No. 4 overall pick last month at the NFL Draft. While the 20-year-old 2015 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year is highly touted, fans of Dallas sports -- which includes the Cowboys and the Stars -- were quick to jump down his throat over the tweet:

Elliott attempted to fan the flames, saying he was happy for Blues goaltender Brian Elliott, who stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced on his way to a win and coasted through the final period after being handed a 5-0 lead through two periods from his offense:

The running back may want to re-think tweeting about hockey, regardless of how good the Stanley Cup playoffs are.
