Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather Next Fight Rumors: Talks Of Boxing Match Is A Hoax [POLL, VIDEO]

A mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor isn't in the works after all.

There were rumors going around that the undefeated boxer and UFC featherweight champion were set to go head-to-head in a billion dollar boxing fight this summer in Las Vegas.

Mayweather, who is currently retired, was linked to a fight with McGregor and all that had to be decided was the purse and the paperwork, The Sun reported, citing a source.

"Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he's obsessed with making Conor eat his words," the source told the publication."Floyd is calling the shots. It's strictly boxing and Conor will have to lose roughly 25 pounds. It was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn't reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he'll be fighting Conor."

Apparently, none of this is true.

"MMA Hour" host Ariel Helwani took to Twitter and pronounced the rumors as false, especially since the report suggested McGregor would make just $10.1 million compared to Mayweather's $144.8 million:

This would have been the biggest bout in combat sports history. Mayweather announced his retirement after defeating Andre Berto in 2015, while McGregor lost to Diaz at UFC 196, which was the best-selling show for the promotion ever.

The two fighters have had a very public spat and McGregor was definitely open to facing "Money."

"I'm open to discussions, come at me," McGregor told The Independent in March of a fight with Mayweather. "But I hold the key and it's me who holds the key to the fight game. I am open-minded, I am open to discussion, I love competition, I love fighting. It would be nice to make that fight if the fans were interested and wanted to see it."

Who would win in a fight?
