Kurt Angle is still pining for a reunion with Vince McMahon and the WWE.

It seemed a little over a year ago that the Olympic hero might be on his way back to the organization, but talks stalled out. Angle, 47, has never been shy about wanting to make a comeback to the WWE, where his professional wrestling career began.

The amateur wrestling Olympic gold medalist and former TNA star recently revealed he's still hoping to one day wind down his career in the WWE, even if he doesn't have another match.

"It's not about even wrestling for the WWE again, it's just having closure," Angle told Vince Russo on his 'The Brand' podcast, according to WrestlingInc. "Being able to have that meeting with Vince where everything is good, it's water under the bridge and we're good to go."

Angle burst on the scene in the WWE and racked up myriad accolades, which included four runs with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

He then left for TNA in 2006 and remained in Dixie Carter's organization until last month. Angle wound down his career in TNA after winning its World Heavyweight Championship six times and getting inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

The 1996 Olympic gold medalist contemplated bolting TNA for the WWE last year, but he ended up not being able to strike a deal with the organization. Triple H was in charge of negotiations on the WWE side and reportedly expressed little interest in bringing the highly-decorated athlete back.

Angle revealed he never actually spoke with Triple H face-to-face, and he hasn't had contact with him in years. The former World Champion also revealed why the WWE is distancing itself from him.

"I haven't spoken to Triple H up until this day since I left WWE," he said. "My manager had a call with him about a year and a half ago and we were going to have a meeting. That meeting got canceled. I have to attribute that to my four DUIs in five years. I don't blame WWE for not want to do business with somebody that is that careless. Now I've been clean and sober for three years, but, you have to earn your trust back. I understand that."

The ball is in the WWE's court as far as a possible reunion with Angle is concerned.
