Retired referee Joe Cortez is convinced that Floyd Mayweather might still come out of retirement and face reigning World Boxing Council welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Mayweather, who owns a perfect 49-0 record, announced his retirement, following his unanimous decision victory against Andre Berto in September last year.

While most boxing fans are still calling for a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao, Cortez is convinced that the rematch between the two boxing superstars will not happen. The Hall of Famer thinks Mayweather will rather face Garcia instead of colliding with Pacquiao again.

"I don't think Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao again," Cortez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "I think if Mayweather is going to do anything, he's going to end up fighting Danny Garcia."

Mayweather ran away with a convincing unanimous decision victory over Pacquiao during their record-setting showdown in May last year. But Cortez believes the former pound-for-pound king will not face Pacquiao because of how the Filipino boxing icon performed during his victory against Timothy Bradley earlier this month.

Cortez added that Pacquiao, who also announced his retirement after beating Bradley in their third fight, will be a dangerous opponent for Mayweather and the latter knows that that he could get an easier win if he decides to face Garcia.

"I think Mayweather says, 'I better stay away from him, he looks a little too fresh, he still looks like he has a little spark of the old flash. He may be too strong for me, let me go with somebody easier.' Mayweather will probably go with Danny Garcia if he ever comes back," Cortez continued.

Garcia, who has a perfect 32-0 record with 18 knockout victories, won the vacant WBC welterweight title via a unanimous decision win against Robert Guerrero in January at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
