Justin Verlander and Kate Upton won't let the rigorous, extensive baseball season be a bummer on their relationship.

The right-hander and the Tigers are in the opening phases of a slate that will see them play 162 games in 180 days -- which includes long road trips -- and possibly even more if they make the playoffs. Such a busy schedule could put a strain on any relationship.

So how do Upton and Verlander keep the spark alive? They make the most of the little time they get together.

"The season is very long, but we try to get the most of our off days," Upton told TMZ. "But luckily, I enjoy watching baseball."

It's been an enjoyable start to the season for Detroit, as it is 6-2 and leads the American League with a .295 team batting average at this early point in the season. Still, in the midst of an eight-game road trip, it has to be hard to maintain the romance in a relationship.

Upton also had a very memorable offseason as she admitted to wanting to make out with a horse and also injured herself in one of the weirdest possible ways.

"I was playing cornhole against my parents," Upton explained to TMZ at LAX in December, "and I was celebrating a little too hard I guess. I got ice right away on it and it's still in pain."

The couple, which has been together since 2011 and briefly split up last year before reuniting, also enjoyed a trip to Las Vegas together in the offseason. But now that the season is here, it certainly will make things more difficult.

While Upton is beautiful, Verlander's numbers are a sight for sore eyes thus far this season. Through two starts, the former AL Cy Young Award winner is 0-1 with an 8.71 ERA.

In his last outing on Monday, the 33-year-old yielded seven earned runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings in an interleague game against the Pirates.

Luckily he has Upton, 23, to lift his spirits by "making the most" of their off days together.
