The Dodgers become the final team to celebrate their home-opener as Opening Day comes to Dodger Stadium on Tuesday afternoon when the club welcomes in the Diamondbacks.
Arizona (2-5) is off to a rough start to the season and has lost two straight games as it embarks on a 10-game road trip. Los Angeles (4-3) won three straight games to open up the season, but has lost three of four as it opens up a six-game homestand.
The Diamondbacks dropped three of four games to the Cubs in their most recent series, while the Dodgers had the same results against the rival Giants.
Patrick Corbin (0-1, 5.14 ERA) takes the ball for the Diamondbacks. In his last outing, he struck out six batters in seven innings, but allowed four runs -- three via the long ball. The Dodgers counter with Kenta Maeda (1-0, 0.00), who hit a home run in his MLB debut last time out, while shutting the Padres out through six innings.
There will be some buzz at Dodger Stadium as legendary announcer Vin Scully calls his final home-opener for Los Angeles and Maeda pitches at home for the first time.
"I think it's great for him to pitch that day, great for baseball for him to pitch the home opener, and even better for the fans of Los Angeles to see Kenta Maeda pitch that home opener," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts via MLB.com. "Until you see it, you don't know what to expect, but I wasn't really too surprised [in San Diego]."
Jean Segura is off to a fast start as a Diamondback with three homers and a .407 batting average. Paul Goldschmidt, meanwhile, has two homers and seven RBIs. Adrian Gonzalez has paced the Dodgers with a .429 average and six RBIs through seven games.
