Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is favored to win in his next fight, but veteran boxer Roy Jones Jr. thinks Amir Khan could pull off an upset over the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion.

Alvarez, who owns a 46-1-1 record with 32 knockout victories, will defend his WBC middleweight title for the first time on May 7 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Mexican boxing superstar, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Miguel Cotto in November, is tagged as heavy favorite to win because of his size advantage over Khan. Alvarez is a natural 155-pounder, while Khan will be fighting over 147 pounds for the first time in his career.

While most boxing fans and analysts are already counting Khan out, Jones said that it will not be a walk in the park for Canelo. Jones said that he will have to put his money on Canelo if asked to make a bet, but the former world champion said that Khan has a chance to score a shocking win.

"People think that it's an easy fight, but it's not an easy fight," Jones told TMZ via BoxingScene. "Late rounds you have to favor Canelo because of his style and his weight advantage - but truthfully speaking Amir Khan is a very good fighter. People never give him credit, and yeah he's a little chinny but he's a very good fighter."

Like Jones, former two-division world champion David Haye also thinks that Khan should not be counted out because his compatriot has the tools to beat Alvarez.

Haye said that he is familiar with both boxers and he is convinced Khan also has the physical tools to stand toe-to-toe with Alvarez, despite the fact that Alvarez will be the bigger fighter on fight night. The 35-year-old predicted Khan will win next month and cement his legacy as one of the best fighters in the world.

"I'm of the complete opposite opinion," Haye told BoxingScene, when asked to predict the Khan-Canelo bout. "I believe this fight is going to cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of our generation, because he's such an underdog, because he's not a world champion currently, but he's going to go up and fight a champion at his weight."
