The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly looking for a quarterback to backup or eventually take Tony Romo's place and they will have the chance to address that need in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys own the No. 4 pick but recent reports indicated that they will consider trading up for the No. 1 pick to select North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz. But if the Cowboys decide not to select a quarterback early in the draft, NFL.com reported that they could be a candidate to trade for Memphis standout Paxton Lynch.

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock said that the Cowboys could just wait until the second round to draft a quarterback, but could eventually trade for a late first-round pick.

If the Cowboys decide to target Lynch, Mayock said that they could move up ahead of the quarterback-chasing Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, who own the 31st and 29th pick, respectively.

According to Sports Day, Lynch is scheduled to visit the Cowboys at the end of the week, which proves Dallas are indeed eyeing the former Memphis quarterback.

Lynch reportedly impressed scouts during the Memphis pro day on Wednesday, as he completed 57 of 69 passes in the workout.

Lynch, who is projected to be drafted behind fellow quarterbacks Wentz and Carolina signal-caller Jared Goff, could be a good pick for the Cowboys according to NFL analysts Bucky Brooks. Brooks said that Lynch has the highest ceiling among the quarterbacks in the draft and could learn more playing behind Romo in Dallas.

"He may come in and it may take him some time to get on the field, but in terms of his long-term potential and talent, he has more talent than some of the other guys in the class," Brooks added.

Romo, who has been slowed down by injuries over the past few seasons, is expected to start again for the Cowboys next season, as team owner Jerry Jones expressed confidence that the veteran could still make an impact for them in the next five seasons.
