Russell Wilson leads a life fit for a king, and perhaps there's a reason for it.

The quarterback makes millions of dollars, plays in the NFL and is engaged to beautiful R&B singer Ciara. He has to have gold in his veins right?

Well, as it turns out, he has some royal routes.

Wilson learned recently that he descended from kings. Historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. gave the one-time Super Bowl champion a lesson in his ancestry at the Richmond Forum, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

"I knew it!" Wilson proclaimed, likely in a joking manner, upon learning of his history, according to the publication.

During the Forum, Wilson also learned of a woman who was enslaved and sued to have her family freed.

"Some of our ancestors may have grown up as slaves," Wilson said. "Some may have been slave owners. . . . We forget we're all human. What it all goes back to is really loving people."

Given Wilson's ancestry, this means Ciara is marrying into royalty. The Seahawks quarterback popped the question to the R&B singer last month, though it's unknown at this time when they will officially tie the knot.

Wilson and Ciara appear to be madly in love with each other, and the signal caller has also shown signs that he'll be a tremendous father some day. Ciara has a child, Future Jr., with her ex-fiancé, rapper Future, and Wilson shares a great bond with the boy.

The good times for the happy couple and Future Jr. includes trips to Dodger Stadium and an Easter weekend voyage to Disneyland.

The quarterback has also shown his giving side in the community. Wilson recently visited his old football team and surprised the kids:

Upon learning he's descended from loyalty, perhaps Wilson should get a prenup after all.
