MLB Opening Day 2016 rolls on as the Dodgers and Padres go head-to-head in a meeting between two NL West rivals.

Los Angeles won the division for the third straight season last year with a 92-70 campaign, but fell to the Mets in five games in the NLDS. San Diego came in with a lot of hope after a busy offseason, but ultimately finished 74-88, fourth in the division, and missed the postseason for the ninth straight season.

Clayton Kershaw (16-7, 2.13 ERA in 2015) toes the rubber for the Dodgers, while the Padres counter with Tyson Ross (10-12, 3.26 ERA). Kershaw, who is starting on Opening Day for the sixth straight season, led the MLB with 301 strikeouts, while his ERA ranked third.

Ross, who has yet to defeat the Dodgers in his career, pitches in his first Opening Day.

"Opening Day, opening series, first time on the mound with the lights on -- it's always a lot of fun," Ross said via MLB.com. "It's something that I enjoy every year. It's going to be great to be out there for the first of 162 -- and hopefully more than that."

Dave Roberts makes his managerial debut for the Dodgers, with a lineup that mostly remained intact from last season. The unit includes Corey Seager, who many pundits have tabbed as their pick to nab the NL Rookie of the Year award this season.

Roberts has teased making some changes to the Dodgers lineup this season.

"I think certain guys like Adrian [Gonzalez] and Justin [Turner], they'll be there right in the middle where they're accustomed to being," Roberts told MLB.com. "But outside of that, I think there's going to be a lot of change."

The Padres brought in Jon Jay and Alexei Ramirez this past offseason and will slot them in a lineup anchored by outfielder and former Dodger Matt Kemp, who ranked fourth in the NL with 100 RBIs last season.
