An inmate, confined to the same Massachusetts prison as Aaron Hernandez, has been charged with stealing the identity of the former New England Patriots tight end while both are incarcerated.
TMZ reports the unidentified man is charged with trying to steal Hernandez's identity for souvenir purposes. The accused thief apparently got a hold of Hernandez's medical badge in the prison's medical wing, where he had been taken early in his incarceration for treatment.
TMZ reports one of the other inmates ultimately snitched on the culprit and Hernandez was able to reclaim his badge. It is not known if the man was ever able to obtain anything under Hernandez's name.
The 23-year-old former NFL star is now being held without bail in connection with the June 17 execution style slaying of semi-pro football Odin Lloyd. Police have speculated that Hernandez may have killed Lloyd based on the victim's knowledge of his alleged involvement in a series of other violence related crimes.
More recently, Hernandez has come under investigation over his alleged involvement in a gun-trafficking ring that spanned across Massachusetts state lines.
Hernandez has pled not guilty to first-degree murder in the Lloyd killing and is lated to be tried sometime in 2014.
