Adrien Broner and Ashley Theophane will collide in the main event of another Premier Boxing Champions card on Friday at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

Broner, who owns a 31-2 record with 23 knockout victories, was supposed to defend his World Boxing Association super lightweight title on Friday night, but the 26-year-old lost his title on the scales.

Broner, who won the vacant title with a knockout win over Khabib Allakhverdiev in October, tipped the scales at 140.4 pounds, while Theophane hit the 140-pound limit during the official weigh-in. Broner was given the chance lose the excess .4 pounds, but the Ohio native did not return and opted to lose his title.

Mike Stafford, Broner's trainer, told USA Today that his fighter does not want to abuse his body. Stafford also admitted that Broner is in a tough situation, referring to the alleged felonious assault charges that he will face after the bout, but the trainer insisted that the former world champion is ready to go all out on Friday.

"It is what it is. The kid chose not to go on and abuse his body," Stafford said. "And hopefully the fans and sportswriters understand that he's been going through a lot and has a lot of things on his mind. Hey, we'll go on and put on a good show tomorrow. Main thing is, the fight's still on, and the kid will be ready to fight."

The WBA super lightweight title will still be at stake, but only for Theophane, who will be declared champion if he wins. If Broner emerges victorious on Friday, the title will be declared vacant.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe believes that Theophane is ready to face Broner and will become a world champion after the bout.

"Ashley is very well prepared and is coming to win the title. He has the opportunity and a tremendous platform to do it on, and we're really looking forward to him winning the world title tomorrow," Ellerbe said.
