UFC News & Notes: Anderson Silva Wants to Face Georges St-Pierre, Conor McGregor

Anderson Silva is in the twilight of his career, but the former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion is still looking for big fights and has expressed interest in facing Georges St-Pierre or Conor McGregor.

The Brazilian superstar has long been linked to St-Pierre during their reign as champions -- Silva in the middleweight division and GSP in the welterweight division. However, talks about the super fight did not materialize until Silva suffered a devastating leg injury and GSP walked away from the sport.

St-Pierre, who has not fought since scoring a split decision victory over Johny Hendricks in November 2013, is reportedly mulling a comeback after he was seen watching UFC 196 earlier this month. And if GSP decides to return, Silva said that he is open to facing his fellow mixed martial arts legend.

"It could happen," Silva said of the fight against St-Pierre via MMA Fighting. "It would be an honor to fight him. It could happen"

Aside from facing St-Pierre, Silva is also eyeing a catchweight bout with reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in the future. The 40-year-old did not discuss the possible catchweight, but he is determined to sit down with UFC general manager Giovani Decker to talk about his desire to face McGregor.

"The challenge that I would like to have in my career would be cut down in weight and fight McGregor," Silva said via MMA Fighting. "I don't know, I would have to talk to Giovani about which weight we can do this fight at, but it's a challenge I would like. He offers me a big challenge, something I'm looking for in my martial knowledge right now."

But before getting a shot against McGregor or even St-Pierre, Silva has to prove he still has a lot of gas left in his tank. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 84 last month. "The Spider" has a chance to redeem himself at UFC 198 on May 14, when he takes on Uriah Hall in a non-title match.
