A chance to advance to the Final Four hangs in the balance when Notre Dame and UNC battle in Elite Eight action on Easter Sunday as March Madness continues.

Notre Dame has defeated Michigan, Stephen F. Austin and, most recently, Wisconsin, 61-56, on Friday. V.J. Beachem led the Fighting Irish with 19 points against Wisconsin, while Demetrius Jackson notched 16 and Zach Auguste put up 13.

Beachem has carried Notre Dame with 17.3 points per game thus far.

UNC has toppled FGCU, Providence and, most recently, Indiana, 101-86 on Friday to get this far. Marcus Paige paced the Tar Heels with 21 points against Indiana, while Brice Johnson had 20, Kennedy Meeks put up 15 and Justin Jackson and Joel Berry each netted 14.

Johnson has avearaged a team-best 19.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game up to this point.

North Carolina defeated Notre Dame, in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, 78-47, on Mar. 11.

"I misplaced it," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said about the tape of that game, according to ESPN. "Those are the ones that you burn, you don't go back to. But certainly you have to learn from it and we've talked about it a little bit in practice."

The Tar Heels aren't taking the Fighting Irish lightly despite the recent win.

"First thing we've learned is that defense wins championships. We've really played well defensively especially at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. And that's basically what we learned mostly out of that game," Johnson told ESPN. "We can't let up on them because they're a very good team and they will make runs during the game. And that's pretty much it."

The winner of this game will face the victor of the Virginia-Syracuse game in the Final Four. The other matchup, which was determined on Saturday, will pit Villanova against Oklahoma.
