Sting may have just turned 57 and may be headed to the WWE Hall of Fame, but that doesn't mean he's done wrestling yet.
"The Vigilante" was linked to retirement rumors last week after sustaining a serious neck injury in his last match to date -- a bout against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions in September. Though speculation has swirled that Sting may be getting set to call it a career, he clarified his status.
"My neck is okay," Sting told TMZ. "I'm not officially retired. There's a lot of rumors out there, but I'm not officially retired."
Sting sustained his injury when he battled Rollins in his first and thus far only crack at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. "The Architect" went to hit the Buckle Bomb on his opponent, and Sting landed awkwardly on the turnbuckles, causing a legitimate injury and an early ending to the bout.
The former WCW and TNA World Heavyweight Champion hasn't wrestled since what was just his second major match in the WWE. Sting made his debut at the Survivor Series in November 2014 and had his first in-ring contest last year at WrestleMania 31, a loss to Triple H.
Though he isn't active in the ring, Sting will still be a big part of this year's WrestleMania festivities in Texas, where he currently resides. "The Icon" will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as he headlines the Class of 2016 on April 2, the night before the biggest show of the year.
It was reported last week that part of Sting's induction speech may include an official retirement announcement, but that may not be the case anymore. There was a report last week that Sting met with doctors who have told him it will be too risky for him to get back in the ring due to the problems caused by his neck injury, according to TMZ.
It seems "The Vigilante" has clarified the rumors and may not be hanging up his boots just yet. Sting turned 57 on Sunday, but perhaps he has a couple of matches left in the tank. Triple H commented on Sting's birthday via Twitter:
Happy birthday to the standard bearer of #WCW, the icon, and soon to be #WWEHOF member. Happy birthday, @Sting! pic.twitter.com/izjMnNjCOc
— Triple H (@TripleH) March 20, 2016
For now, it seems Sting still dreams of getting back inside the squared circle.
