Kerry Washington is steadfast when it comes to keeping her personal life private from the public eye.

Amid rumors that the "Scandal" star is headed toward a divorce with former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, she is staying mum on the subject. Rumors of the relationship being in turmoil have circled around for months, but Washington isn't spilling the beans.

"If I don't talk about my personal life, it means I don't talk about my personal life," Washington said via E! News at a SXSW panel on Sunday. "That means not only did I not tell you when I was getting married, it also means if somebody has rumors about what's going on in my marriage, I don't refute them, because I don't talk about my personal life."

Washington quietly tied the knot with Asomugha in 2013, but the two seem destined for a split. Even if things do come to an end for the once happy couple, don't expect to see the actress posting about it on social media.

"Social media has actually been great for [other celebrities] relationships for the weeklies or the gossip sites because people say things and they say, 'That's not true!' So I'm thinking in some ways, it's been great because people are able to maintain their voice," she said. "It's a little different for me because I don't talk about my personal life."

Asomugha, a three-time NFL Pro Bowler, has remained unemployed since his stint with the 49ers came to an unceremonious end in November 2013 when San Francisco waived him. The former NFL star's lack of employment has reportedly been a part of the issues the couple has faced in recent months.

"Things have gotten so bad, Kerry and Nnamdi are barely talking," a source told In Touch about the couple in December. "They are like two strangers living under the same roof."

The couple has been entangled in various rumors. There has been constant speculation that the former cornerback might be gay, while Washington has had to fend off rumors that linked her to being a lesbian.

Regardless of what happens, Washington's track record shows it's unlikely to play out in the public eye. The couple has a daughter, Isabelle, but the actress has even been secretive when it comes to her child.

"You know, I'm a really private person," she told Page Six in September, "and I feel like at some point you will [see her], but for now it is what it is."

That same shroud of mystery is cloaked over her marriage -- or lack thereof.
