Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari are now happily married, but they had a rocky road to the altar.

The Bears quarterback and reality television star got engaged in April 2011, but they called it off that July. Eventually, they reconciled that November and were married on June 7, 2013.

In her new book, "Balancing in Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making it all Work," Cavallari revealed the decision behind her calling off the engagement originally.

"I always go after what I want in life, with men or otherwise, and I never settle," Cavallari dishes in her book, according to Terez Owens. "If something doesn't feel right, I act on it. It's just who I've always been."

The former "The Hills" star said that she didn't feel right in her relationship when she first decided to halt the engagement, but eventually came around.

"At that moment, something wasn't right," Cavallari writes in the book. "A few things needed to change, and I knew the only way Jay would see how serious I was, was if I ended the relationship."

She did end it, but eventually he was able to win her back and now the two have three children, sons Camden and Jaxon and daughter Saylor, who was born this past November.

While Cutler was able to overcome a huge hurdle in his personal life, he has struggled to help the Bears get back into the playoffs in his professional life in recent years. Chicago finished 6-10 in 2015, placing fourth in the NFC North for the second straight season.

The Bears also haven't made the playoffs since 2010, but at least Cutler was able to turn things around with his reality television star wife.

Cavallari's book is due to come out this Tuesday.
