Kobe Bryant scored in a different way at the Staples Center on Wednesday.

The five-time NBA champion hasn't been playing much on his home court recently, but he returned to the Staples Center on a night off to watch a Kings game with his wife, Vanessa.

Bryant watched on as the Kings notched their 40th win of the season, knocking off the NHL-best Capitals, 4-3, after a thrilling game-winning goal by Jeff Carter.

Though it was a night for hockey instead of basketball, Bryant was an unexpected part of the game.

The soon-to-be retired star was shown on the kiss cam with his wife and he happily obliged, planting his lips on her. It certainly seemed like the couple was having a great time.

Bryant has been sitting out a lot of home games, so lately, he's done more kissing at the Staples Center than playing. During his farewell tour, the Black Mamba has been resting up at home and playing one last time in each road venue.

Many fans have flocked to Los Angeles to catch a final glimpse of Bryant before he retires in just over a month, only to end up disappointed with him sitting out. The 18-time All-Star feels their pain.

"I just feel terrible not being able to be out here every single game," Bryant said on the court Sunday during the ABC television broadcast, according to the New York Times. "It's been tough laboring with the shoulder a little bit. For the last year, if I can give it a go, I'll go out there and try."

Bryant's swansong has been the only redeeming part of yet another forgettable season for the Lakers. Los Angeles is last in the Western Conference with a 14-51 record, which has followed two straight seasons of the team setting franchise lows with its worst records in history.

The Black Mamba won't be ending his career with a sixth championship, but he has had the chance to celebrate his storied run in the NBA throughout the season -- even if he doesn't always play.

Judging by the good times he shared with his wife Wednesday night, retired life will be great for Bryant.
