CC Sabathia turned to his wife when he was lost in the throes of addiction.

The Yankees pitcher shockingly checked himself into alcohol rehab on the eve of the club's American League Wild Card Game against the Astros in October. New York would go on to fall to Houston, 3-0, to end its season, while Sabathia's road to sobriety was just beginning.

Sabathia was able to identify he had a problem and sought help before it continued to get out of hand. The former AL Cy Young Award winner counted on the support of his friends, baseball peers, and perhaps most importantly, his wife.

"I've been blessed to get support from those around me," Sabathia penned in a post entitled 'My Toughest Out' on the Players' Tribune. "There aren't any words to describe how amazing my wife, Amber, has been throughout this process, and all of my extended friends and family have been incredibly supportive, as well."

Sabathia isn't the only athlete to lean on a strong woman when dealing with demons. Lamar Odom nearly died of an overdose in October, but has since made a miraculous recovery, thanks in part to the emotional and financial support of his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian.

The six-time All-Star was dealing with his issues right around the time the Odom news came to light.

"I was in rehab when the news about Lamar Odom broke," he wrote. "That really hit me hard. We're about the same age, and both of us entered professional sports when we were really young. Watching how he struggled was terrible because we have so much in common. And it also made me confident that I'd really made the right decision."

Now, thanks in part to his wife, Sabathia is back and ready to make a huge difference for the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers open up on April 4 with a game against the very same Astros that knocked them from the postseason.
