The Golden State Warriors are continuously being linked to Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, but the defending champions are not lock to acquire the former NBA Most Valuable Player in the offseason.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported in February that the Warriors are "serious threat" to sign Durant, when the Thunder forward becomes a free agent this summer. Wojnarowski, who has been a reliable source on possible deals in the league, also said in a separate report that the Warriors want to make Durant "a partner" in July.

But broadcaster Jeff Meyers, who currently acts as the voice of the New Orleans Pelicans, said on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Monday, via the Oklahoman, that the Warriors might not be the frontrunners in the race to sign Durant.
"Everybody thought it was, like, 'Well, maybe he can slide in there, and they won't match whoever makes an offer to Harrison Barnes. So it frees up that cap space that they would have given to Harrison Barnes.' But the calls I took, and some of the people I talked to over the weekend being in the building, it's not such a deadlock," Meyers said.

Meyers said though, that Durant will likely bolt out of the Thunder if they fail to reach the NBA Finals this season. The Thunder are currently third in the Western Conference standings with their 43-20 record, but they are 10 games behind the San Antonio Spurs and 13 games behind the Warriors.
But even if Durant decides to leave the Thunder, the 27-year-old will prioritize signing with a team where he would still be the main man. It will not happen if he decides to move to Golden State, who boast a deep and talented roster led by All-Stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
"So everybody's talking about Golden State. There may be other teams coming into the equation for Kevin Durant," Meyers added. "He's the principle. He's going to be the guy. So from what I've been told, it may not be Golden State after all."
