Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo played well for their respective teams this weekend, but the Real Madrid superstar stood out and kept his scoring lead over his FC Barcelona counterpart.

According to ESPN, Ronaldo was on target during their 7-1 win against Celta Vigo on Saturday, netting four goals for his third hat trick in the 2015-16 Spanish La Liga season. On the other hand, Messi had a brace during their 4-0 win against Eibar, a victory that helped FC Barcelona maintain their lead in the La Liga title race.

With his four strikes on Saturday, Ronaldo now has 27 goals to go along with nine assists in 28 league games, while Messi has tallied 21 goals in 23 appearances for FC Barcelona in La Liga this year.

Messi, the reigning and five-time Ballon d'Or winner, will look to decrease the deficit on Saturday when they go up against Getafe, while Ronaldo will try to maintain or even increase his lead on Sunday against Las Palmas.

Meanwhile, the usual friendly debate involving Messi and Ronaldo turned into an ugly incident. According to AFP, a man killed his friend after arguing on who among the superstars is the best in the world today.

Police inspector Kiran Kabadi said that the incident involved two Nigerian nationals -- 21-year-old Michael Chukwuma and 34-year-old Obina Durumchukwu. Kabadi revealed that Chukwuma was charged for killing his friend, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday night.

Following a heated argument, the victim reportedly three a glass into Chukwuma, who then took a broken glass and used it to stab Durumchukwu.

"The two were discussing football players. One is a fan of Messi and the other was for Ronaldo," Kabadi said of the incident. "The deceased threw a glass into the face of the accused person. The glass broke and caused small injuries. After that, the accused took the broken glass and assaulted the deceased person, who died due to heavy bleeding."
