Reigning World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Badou Jack is expecting a tough title defense if he collides with Mexican superstar Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Jack, who owns a 20-1-1 record with 12 knockout victories, will likely face Chavez in his next fight. Jack knows about the issues surrounding Chavez, but the 32-year-old told BoxingScene that he is not expecting a walk in the park.

"I don't see it as an easy fight," Jack said, referring to his possible title defense against Chavez. "He is a tough guy. A big strong guy."

Jack believes Chavez will be more disciplined in his preparation for their possible showdown. He said that former world champion has to pay if he fails to make the weight but he does not see it happening because he knows Chavez will train hard for the bout.

"I think this is his last shot so I think he will be ready," Jack said. "I think he will train hard and get down to the 168 pound limit."

Jack took the WBC super middleweight title via a majority decision win against Anthony Dirrell in April last year. The Stockholm, Sweden, native then escaped with a split decision win against George Groves in September.

On the other hand, Chavez, who has a 49-2-1 record with 32 knockout victories, won against Marcos Reyes in July via unanimous decision, which came three months after retiring during his bout against Andrzej Fonfara.

The Jack-Chavez title fight is not yet finalized but, Chavez said in a recent interview with ESPN Deportes that the two camps are close to striking a deal.

"They are still negotiating, it seems that things are going well," Chavez said via BoxingScene. "Perhaps in the next few days they will confirm the fight. They tell me they are missing a few details but it seems they are close, but there is nothing official so far and I do not want to look too far ahead."
